Diamondback Bmx Serial Numbers
Hey guys, I have this Diamond Back frame that I'd like to know the year and model of and if it's chrome-moly or mild steel. I don't know a whole lot about DB's other than they were really cool when I was young. I was into Cook Bros then (and now). I got this DB cause it looks alot like a Cook Bros.
Serial Number Guide and Registry. Can anyone tell me what sort of diamondback BMX this is?Serial number is KW9J08573 it has the DB symbol and 37 on the. I just bought a used Diamondback Sorrento and would like to know the age. Is there a serial # decoder? Doesn't look like the Diamondback website will. Find out how much a Diamondback bicycle is worth. Our bicycle database is constantly growing with pricing information and bicycle specs daily. Diamondback Silver Streak????? - posted in Riding, Research & Collecting: whats the difference between the db logo on the neck or the diamondback? Also what letter in the serial number says its a silver streak???
Anyways, maybe you DB experts can help! The finish is either chrome or nickel plated, not sure yet which.
Diamondback Bike Serial Number Decoding
It has a 3-loop one-piece tailsection. The double front gussets are the large size. The gussets have the diamond shape hole in them and 3 welds along the top tube and 3 along the down tube and one along the head tube, with open corners. It has an American size bottom bracket shell. There is a rounded-corner rectangular tube between the bottom bracket shell and the chainstay loop that has a hole thru the top of it. The shape of the dropouts look alot like Cook Bros dropouts and are a little thicker than Cook's. The head tube and bottom bracket shell are straight/smooth (no outside machining like you see on Cook Bros frames).
The brake bridge is a curved round tube the same diameter as the rest of the tailsection tubing. There are no chain gaurd tabs and the welds are nice, so I assume this is not a cheapo dept store model.
Someone said it was made in Japan. Not sure about that but thought I would throw that in. Thanks for your help!
Also, what kinda forks are supposed to go on this and what do they look like? [ February 16, 2006, 06:46 PM: Message edited by: SoCalDesertRider ]. Hi guys, I finally got the info to identify this frame, I think. The dropouts are 1/8' thick, about twice as thick as the ones on my Cook Bros.

The frame also has a thick 'washer' welded on top of the brake bridge where the brake caliper mounts to. The top tube length is about 18-3/8'. The welds are beautiful, tight little TIG welds, pretty close in quality to the ones on my Cook Bros.
Sade no ordinary love download. All songs are in the MP3 format and can be played on any computer or on any MP3 Player including the iPhone.
The serial number is on the inside of the left dropout and it is- '2X02xx'. I put in the last 2 x's in place of the numbers. Someone told me if it has the washer on the brake bridge, it's a Silver Streak and the Med Pro's didn't have the washer.
Is that true? Is this frame chrome-moly, and what year is it? Is the plating chrome or nickel? I weighed it on the mail scale and it is just a hair over 4 lbs stripped, except for the headset and bottom bracket cups that are still in it. It feels heavier than the Cook Bros, but the Cook Bros scaled out pretty close to the same, if I remember right, which surprised me. I'll weigh the Cook Bros again when I have it over here again.

Thanks for ya'lls help! [ February 16, 2006, 06:44 PM: Message edited by: SoCalDesertRider ]. Look for the 'basebaball stamp' near the serial number, this will tell you if it is a Japanese made frame vs Taiwanese. Lots of good frames were made in the????? (forgot the name of it) factory in Japan, got chrome plated and then exported out to the rest of the world to get all sorts of different brand stickers put onto them. We bought a complete 26 inch cruiser around 1981 with a baseball stamp + local brand name stickers on it, it only needed a set of Kos cruiser bars fitted on to turn it & it was ready to go.Matt has some pix of it somewhere.
